In response to the need for social distancing, a number of our events are postponed, our meetings are moved to online platform ‘Zoom’ and our working groups will continue to communicate by email and Telegram. Please email us to find out more. We will endeavor to pick up our activities as the lockdown eases, initially with out door social events where we can keep to social distancing.
Here you can find all of the forthcoming events taking place in and around Reigate and Redhill. You can also stay up to date by following us on facebook.
There are 5 types of events listed below:
Actions: Events directed at highlighting issues. They can include non-violent acts of civil disobedience and could take the shape of anything from a bike swarm to a bank protest or a die-in to a flash mob. Locally to Reigate, Redhill, Dorking and Gatwick Airport, we are also engaging in actions to publicize our concerns without causing disruption, such as through stalls, leafleting and performances.
Training: Learning opportunities, covering introductions to XR and its core principles and understanding of different roles to support actions. We also hold training in out meetings, as well as online using platforms such as Zoom.
Socials: We need times to regenerate our energies and get to know each other!
Climate Café: We meet on the first and third Monday of each month at 7.30pm at The Yard, at Reigate Station, 3A Holmesdale Rd, Reigate RH2 9QN. During the current outbreak of Covid-19 these fortnightly meetings are being held on the Zoom platform.
We have some time initially to chat then have our group’s meeting to share information, for example about upcoming evens and feedback from the working groups. We sometimes have trainings at these meetings.
Clear Skies – Gatwick: 9.30am meeting at Costa Coffee, South Terminal, Arrivals. This is a peaceful, friendly, non-disruptive leafletting, trying to engage he public with a message of flying less. Extinction Rebellion (XR) Clear Skies is a network of XR groups and individuals taking action to get airport to cut flights and also to encourage the public to reduce the number of flights they take by increasing awareness of the climate emergency. See facebook page here or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Currently on hold due to the corona virus – watch this space.
Faith at the Gate: First Sunday of the month, 3.30pm, at Horse Hill Protection Camp, at the junction of Horse Hill and the A217, postcode RH6 0HU.
Horse Hill Rebel Alliance welcomes people of all faiths and none to join a peaceful candlelit vigil to shine a light on the climate crisis and the climate battleground at Horse Hill. Bring a tealight in a jar, a high viz jacket if you have one, a small prayer flag, and a torch. Afterwards, join us for a drink at The Black Horse Pub opposite the camp. During the current outbreak of Covid-19 these fortnightly meetings are being held on the Zoom platform
No Going Back Protest: June 2020 was the start of a monthly socially distanced protest. Rebels line up 2-3 metres apart with their own banners along the north stretch of the Reigate one-way, outside Reigate council offices. Our message is about the urgent need to act on the opportunities brought by the lockdown and move straight to a position of reduced carbon, planet friendly living. Meet 12noon.
